Nurturing Brilliance: Mastering Aftercare for Your Newly Renovated Cricket Square – Fertilizing, Mowing, and Brushing to Perfection!

Groundsmans Blog - Battersby

The echoes of cricket triumphs may have faded, but the legacy of your cricket square lives on.

In this blog, we delve into the crucial realm of aftercare following the end-of-season cricket square renovation. From strategic fertilizing to mowing once the new grass establishes its roots and the art of regular brushing for that impeccable finish – discover the playbook for maintaining a pitch that's not just good, but extraordinary.

Fertilising for Longevity: Feeding the Roots of Renewal – Fertilising isn’t just for in season – indeed it could be argued that it is more important now. Many fertilisers during the winter period are designed to help with root growth, which should encourage your grasses to withstand the rigours of rolling and close mowing that the ‘in-season’ brings.

We recommend high potassium products such as the 5-5-20, 5-0-28 or our all season 6-0-12 option.

Mowing Mastery: A Symphony of Precision and Patience. Despite dwindling light and temperatures, you should be in a position to cut between 4-8 weeks after renovation, with the new loam having settled in and the new seedlings having established.

Rotorary mowing to a height of 25-30mm will help your grass thicken up as you continue the prep towards next season.

Got some thinly grassed areas?
Why not overseed with our Coldstart blend. This will germinate in soil temperatures down to 5c -

Regular Brushing/Dew Knock Off: The Fine Art of Surface Maintenance.

Where possible regular dew brushing will help ensure your grass is encouraged to stand upright, avoiding those thick dense grasses that can have an adverse effect on the playability of your pitches.

Dew brushing also prevents disease.

Does your grass look diseased/unwell? We stock fungicides and other disease repellants – please contact us for more details.

The story of a cricket square doesn't end with renovation; it evolves through meticulous aftercare.

Fertilizing, mowing, and brushing are the instruments that shape this narrative.

It's not just about maintaining; it's about elevating your pitch to a standard that echoes the excellence of the game itself. Get ready to showcase a cricket square that's a testament to your commitment and passion for the sport!
